"Sonder: the sudden realization that every passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own. Hearing the definition of this word hit a feeling I’ve had since I was a child that I could never quite explain. I would stare out classroom windows and watch cars drive by and wonder about their lives. People who I can’t remember their faces have dreams, hopes, successes, failures, and families. All our lives are all so colourful and bright and dark, and we know nothing about each other’s. This idea, coupled with the theory of parallel realities and universes, made me wonder how our decisions create different realities, regardless of how small those decisions are. Like the cataclysmic consequences of a coin flip. How many versions of me are living an entirely different life out there? How many of them are stuck in a life I gave up years ago? How many of them are happy? Sad? Etc."
